ABSTRACT


Background


Learning style is an individual's natural and habitual pattern of acquiring and processing information in learning situations (James & Gardner, 1995) and plays a major consideration in providing efficient and effective learning (Childress, 2001). Educators must be able to identify and match the person's learning styles with the delivery of the subject matter to facilitate effective learning.


 


Objective


The study aimed to find out the learning style of PHC nurses using the VARK (visual, auditory, read/write and kinesthetic) questionnaire version 7.2.


 


Methodology


The study utilized the cross-sectional study design. The sample comprised of nurses currently employed in the institution who were willing to participate in the study. After signing the informed consent, the study participants were asked to answer the VARK questionnaire. Correlation statistical analysis was utilized by the investigators to analyze the data obtained.


 


Results


A total of 428 nurses participated in the study. Results showed that only 17 (3.97%) of the participants have inclination to visual learning, 87 (20.33%) are aural /auditory learners, 150 (35.05%) have read/write preference and 98 (22.90%) are kinesthetic learners. There are 76 (17.76%) who are considered multimodal or have more than one learning style. The results also showed a weak but direct relationship of the nurses' learning styles to their demographic profiles.
